More Than a Game: The Ultimate Victory on the Fields of Santa Cruz

During our recent ministry week in Santa Cruz de Yojoa, Honduras, we were reminded once again that sports are a powerful bridge to connect with the younger generation. While we carried out various outreach efforts across the communities, there was one initiative that sparked immense passion and excitement among the children: soccer outreach.

Training with Purpose Leading to the Grand Championship

Throughout the week, as we visited four different schools, we assembled a special team of students in each location. We put together practice sessions packed with drills, agility exercises, and team-building dynamics—giving them a full “Mini FIFA” experience as they prepared to represent their schools in the end-of-week championship tournament, where all four teams faced off.

For these kids, it wasn’t just about playing soccer; it was a chance to learn discipline, teamwork, and resilience, all while feeling supported by a coaching team that truly believed in them.

The Message at Every Practice: The Real Victory

Beyond the goals, passes, and plays, our main goal was always clear: to share the Hope of the Gospel.

Throughout the week, right in the middle of practices and rest breaks at each school, we took time to share the Good News. We taught them that while soccer comes with temporary wins and losses, there is an eternal victory that has already been won for them on the cross.

We met children with receptive hearts, ready to embrace the faith. By the time the week wrapped up:

children surrendered their lives to Jesus, accepting Him as their personal Savior.

Seeing these young players lift their hands and yield their hearts to God was, without a doubt, the greatest goal and the biggest victory of the entire week.

Special Thanks

This athletic and evangelistic journey would not have been possible without the support of so many:

To the school authorities and teachers: Thank you for opening your facilities and encouraging your students to participate.
To our coaches and volunteers: Thank you for investing your time, energy, and passion into coaching not just the feet, but the hearts of these children.
To our sponsors and donors: Thank you for making the soccer balls, gear, and tournament logistics possible.
To everyone who prayed for us: Thank you for upholding the physical and spiritual protection of every child on the field.
